Mexican Yam is a member of the Yam family, not to be confused with sweet potatoes. All yams contain a number of useful ingredients.
However, Japanese scientists discovered the Mexican Yam growing wild in Mexico in 1936. Subsequent tests revealed much higher concentrations of these ingredients than in other types of Yam.
Some islanders in Papua New Guinea regard the Yam as sacred and devote festivals to it; their language even has dozens of words for the Yam. And notably, the menopause isn’t a big deal to them
